Wald im Pinzgau — quiet mountain village at the gateway to the National Park
Wald im Pinzgau lies just a few kilometres east of Krimml and is the unhurried little brother in the valley. For those who want an authentic mountain village without the tourist bustle, with direct access to the Wildgerlos valley and the Hohe Tauern National Park.
The location is ideal if you want to be near Krimml but spend your evenings quietly on the terrace. The Königsleiten/Gerlosplatte ski area is less than ten minutes away — one of Salzburg's most snow-sure family ski regions.
Vacation rentals in Wald are often cheaper than in Krimml itself and mostly in privately run houses. A good fit for multi-generation holidays and hikers using the Wildgerlos valley as a gateway to the national park.
Wald im Pinzgau in winter is what it is in summer: a quiet mountain village — the ski action plays out higher up in Königsleiten. The ski area at 1,602 m is part of the Zillertal Arena (over 140 km of slopes reaching all the way into the Zillertal valley) and is considered one of the most snow-reliable in the Tauern thanks to its altitude.
