Mittersill — Pinzgau crossroads with castle and National Park visitor world
Mittersill is the largest town in Upper Pinzgau (officially elevated to city status in 2008) and the natural crossroads between Salzburg, Tyrol and the national park. The Felbertauern axis to East Tyrol and the Pinzgau valley road meet here — for arrivals and day trips, Mittersill is the most convenient base.
If you want infrastructure, choose Mittersill: 12th-century Schloss Mittersill, the Hohe Tauern National Park visitor world ("Nationalparkwelten", around 80,000 visitors a year), restaurants and shops. In winter Mittersill is the gateway to the Resterhöhe / KitzSki area via the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen; in summer it's the starting point for Großvenediger and Hohe Tauern tours via the Felber valley.
Vacation rentals range from central and urban to quiet hillside locations with valley views. Mittersill is the choice for travellers who don't want to see the same valley every day but explore the whole region flexibly.
