Krimml — at the foot of Europe's highest waterfalls
Krimml lies at the western end of Upper Pinzgau, right at the entrance to the Hohe Tauern National Park. The Krimml Waterfalls cascade 380 metres down in three stages — the highest waterfalls in Austria and among the highest in Europe.
People looking for a vacation rental in Krimml usually come for one of four reasons: the waterfalls, hiking in the national park, ski touring in winter, or the quiet of a mountain village away from the big ski resorts.
Our recommendation: spring and autumn are the most beautiful times. The waterfall area gets busy in high summer; in winter Krimml is a quiet insider tip for ski tourers.
Krimml in winter is a different place: quiet, white, almost meditative. While the waterfalls fall silent under thick ice cloaks, the Zillertal Arena ski area opens up above Hochkrimml (via Königsleiten) — more than 140 km of slopes that reach through the Tauern mountains all the way into the Zillertal valley.
People looking for a vacation rental in Krimml in winter usually come for one of these activities: skiing in the Zillertal Arena or the nearby Wildkogel, snowshoe hiking through the snow-covered Achental valley, ski touring off the groomed runs, cross-country skiing on the trails around Hochkrimml — or simply a quiet winter away from loud après-ski resorts.
Our recommendation: late winter (February/March) is especially beautiful in Upper Pinzgau — reliable snow, longer days, stable high-pressure spells with views down into the valley. The waterfall trail also rewards a winter visit: the lower section is accessible with snowshoes or spikes and leads up to the first cascade — an experience of ice, stillness, and winter clarity.
